Albanian identity and the myth of immutability
with Kim Mehmeti
Summary
Kim Mehmeti argues that Albanian identity has its axis in Albanianness, in the language and in the culture, but that it is multicultural as well — because the Ottoman inheritance and Christianity have genuinely shaped it. He turns the argument on the West too: Europe also carries an eastern identity within itself, one that cannot be hidden away.
An excerpt from the lecture “Kim Mehmeti — The political and cultural identity of the Albanian nation”.
